Join the Community Farm Experience

Homesteads for Hope offers classes for adults 18+ seeking to grow their unique ability and purpose in nature’s classroom. Our hands-on approach allows participants to experience all that a real, working agritourism center has to offer. Participants can and will grow their skills and knowledge on the farm and through our enterprise models. This includes learning in the greenhouses, gardens, and fields, training in our store, and learning how to support inclusive community events. New in 2024, we offer an array of experiences making marketable products, and cooking in our teaching kitchen. The goal of our programs is to grow what we CAN do, and stretch our abilities and perspectives of ourselves. Those enrolled in our class sessions are learning skills to increase their independence and confidence in an inclusive and compassionate environment.

  • At Homesteads, you won’t necessarily know if someone has a disability or not- and that’s how we roll! We all work equally and we expect you to treat people equally when at the farm. As we seek to be a safe, welcoming home to all people, please be mindful of diversity, equity & inclusion. This may look like explaining to children that we are simply ”people” - regardless of ability level.

  • We welcome you to take photos while visiting, please tag us on social media!

If you are seeking to use our venue for a photoshoot, please contact Alexis@HomesteadsforHope.org or at 585.352.4673 Ext. 109 for permission, scheduled time and donation fee.

  • We are a farm, so obviously we love animals, but unfortunately we cannot allow dogs on the property for many reasons!

We have two dogs on site who are being trained for service.

Not all of our friends at the farm are comfortable with dogs. As much as you love your dog, someone else may not.

We have had issues in the past with dogs being aggressive to the chickens and people.

  • Homesteads for Hope is located at 2185 Manitou Road in Rochester, NY, in the Town of Ogden - Directly on the Erie Canal. A GPS system may try to take you through a housing subdivision. Don’t follow this, as it will lead you to a field. Continue on Manitou Road and you will see our main entrance on the west side of the road. There is a green antique truck and farm stand by the road, followed up the driveway is Big Red Barns.

We are located opposite side of the Erie Canal from Big Ridge Road.

We are Located opposite Manitou Road from Ridgeway Ave.

Farm Programs!

Our Farm Program classes offer the opportunity for adults to learn new skills and grow in confidence through participation in the daily tasks at the farm. The work of these apprentices contributes to the organic produce for the valuable Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) food share program. This includes planting seeds and seedlings, weeding, harvesting, storing, and preparing produce for distribution, as well as the care of our resident farm animals.

In our 55-acre, nature-based classroom, apprentice growth happens in the greenhouses, barns, store, and fields. Some of those who have participated in our Farm Programs have enjoyed the experience so much that they have chosen to become lifelong volunteers on the farm or have gained the knowledge and skills to become Homesteads for Hope employees.
